2020: Announcement of the contactless display

On July 22, 2020 provided to Jaguar Land Rover the contactless display for cars. The company calls two main advantages of such screen:

  • the driver remains to more attentive driving;
  • reduction of risk of infection with viruses, including COVID-19.

Innovation uses technology of "predictive touch" which is constructed on artificial intelligence and a set of certain sensors, allowing to manage the information and entertaining systems without the need for physical contact with the surface of the touch screen.

Laboratory tests and tests in real road conditions showed that the technology of predictive touch can reduce approximately by 50% efforts which the driver spends for actions with the touch screen.

As noted in Jaguar Land Rover, the uneven or broken paving often causes vibrations and jolting because of what the exact choice of the necessary button on the screen becomes difficult. The driver should distract in addition from the road, and it increases risk of accident.

The new technology allows by means of artificial intelligence already at an early stage of the movement to define that command which the user intends to select on the screen that, in turn, increases speed of interaction. The system of tracking of gestures uses sensors of control of the image and radio-frequency sensors which extend in consumer electronics more and more widely. These data integrate with the context information, such as user profile, design of the interface and environmental conditions and also with information from other sensors (for example, the sensor monitoring the movement of eyes of the driver). As a result an opportunity in real time to predict intentions of the user forms.[1]
