2023: System Launch
On October 27, 2023, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, a division of Jio Platforms Limited, announced the launch of India's first gigabit-class satellite internet. The service, called Jio SpaceFiber, will provide high-speed web access to remote regions of the country.
As part of the project, Jio has partnered with SES, which specializes in satellite technologies involving the use of medium Earth orbit (MEO). It is claimed that Jio SpaceFiber is the only MEO group (as of October 2023) that allows you to provide gigabit "fiber-optic services from space."
SES became the first company in the world to not only put into operation, but also organize the provision of commercial services based on satellites in two orbits. In particular, the company launched more than 70 spacecraft into both geostationary orbit (GEO) and the aforementioned middle Earth orbit. These satellites are used to provide video services and data services to millions of customers worldwide. In addition to Jio, SES partners with other major companies, including, Amazon Web Services,,, and Microsoft Honeywell. Hughes Network Systems SpaceX
Jio SpaceFiber will enable millions of Indian households and businesses to take advantage of broadband internet for the first time. The platform will initially work in the four most remote areas of the country - Gir in Gujarat, Korba in Chhattisgarh, Nabrangpur in Odisha and Jorhat in Assam. With the launch of Jio SpaceFiber, Reliance Jio is noted to be "demonstrating its commitment to closing the digital divide in India." With its low-cost 4G and 5G broadband plans, the company has been able to transform the country's telecommunications sector.[1]
