2022: Start of drone production
In early November 2022, it became known that the Jupiter enterprise, located in the city of Valdai, Novgorod Region, had begun production of drones with thermal imagers. According to the governor of the region, Andrei Nikitin, the drones are assembled from Russian components and are intended for the needs of the army and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The first quadcopters have already been sent to units of the Russian army.
Thanks to the thermal imaging camera, flights can be performed at night and at an altitude of 3 km. The plant creates various modifications of the device for different tasks. According to Nikitin, the cost of the device is three times less than that of manufacturers in other countries.
| This is a positive example of our technology reaching a new level. There are practically no such drones in Russia, so I hope that in the future we will transfer our experience to other regions, "he explained in his Telegram channel. |
The Russian military has previously begun using drones with domestic thermal imagers during a special military operation (SVO) on. Alexander To UkraineRIA NovostiAstron Bubnov, a representative of the design bureau (KB), spoke about the supply of drones with Russian units.
| In connection with the military special operation, the state customer needed a domestic thermal imager for drones. In fact, our BPLA-400T is a flying thermal imager, which is used, among other things, for reconnaissance and target designation of artillery. The product is already mass-delivered to the aircraft and is used in the air defense system, - said the representative of the design bureau. He noted that Astron is the only domestic manufacturer of thermal imaging modules and detectors. |
Bubnov added that by the end of 2022, Astron will manufacture a thousand drones with thermal imagers for the needs of the army. The capacity of the enterprise allows you to produce up to five thousand drones per year.[1]
