2024: Product Announcement
The Megapolis Telecom Region company in September 2024 patented the first DDR5 standard memory chip in Russia. This step was an important event for domestic electronics, since before that all the RAM bars presented on the Russian market were based exclusively on foreign chips. The new development of the Russian company was registered with the Federal Intellectual Property Service. The patent for the chip was issued before 2034.
According to Cnews, the DDR5 memory chip, called K1661RP1VYa, was developed using advanced technologies and is not inferior in its characteristics to foreign counterparts. It has a clock frequency in the range of 4800-5600 MHz and supports operation at temperatures from 0 to + 85 degrees Celsius. The chip capacity is 38,400 Mbps. These parameters make it competitive with foreign RAM samples widely used in server and desktop systems.
The key advantage of this development is support for built-in error correction code (ECC), which allows the chip to be used in servers where there is a high need for data reliability and stability. This distinguishes the Russian chip from many similar solutions designed for desktop PCs and laptops, which are not always equipped with error correction.
So far, Megapolis Telecom Region has not announced the start of mass production of the microcircuit. The developers explain this by restrictions related to anti-Russian sanctions, due to which the company is forced to keep the details of the project confidential. The production of a microcircuit in Russia is not planned in the near future, and company officials do not specify exactly when the production process based on domestic technologies can be launched.[1]
