2026: Start of Deliveries

KamAZ has launched the first Russian electric garbage truck on the market. The company told about this at the end of January 2026.

The first electric truck was transferred to EcoLife, the corresponding agreement was reached within the framework of the KamAZ technical conference. The start of operation is scheduled for March 2026.

KamAZ released the first Russian electric truck

EcoLife specialists intend to assess the key parameters of the new equipment: operational characteristics, economic feasibility and readiness for integration into the current solid municipal waste management system (MSW). Based on the results of the trial operation, a decision will be made on the possible inclusion of electric vehicles in the KamAZ fleet.

Representatives of EcoLife noted that the results of the pilot operation will become the basis for strategic decisions to modernize the fleet of special equipment. The importance of partnership with a domestic producer is emphasized as part of the transition to sustainable (environmentally friendly) waste management technologies.

The electric truck has the KamAZ-53198 index and the proper name "KamAZ-Chistogor." The model was developed by engineers of the KamAZ scientific and technical center. The technique has the following characteristics:

  • maximum speed - not less than 90 km/h;
  • ability to overcome a slope of at least 15%;
  • capacity of traction accumulator battery - 156.6 kVt·ch;
  • design range at the total weight of the vehicle, taking into account the operation of pressing equipment - 100 km, which is enough to perform at least two cycles of garbage collection and unloading;
  • load on the front axle at full weight - 7100 kg, on the driving axle - 10,900 kg.

The machine is equipped with a garbage truck superstructure (special equipment) Zoeller Mini XL with a rear load type weighing 4300 kg. The maximum mass of exported waste reaches 6260 kg.[1]

2020: "KamAZ" presented an electric garbage truck

In mid-June 2020, KamAZ presented an electric garbage truck, which received the 53198 index and the market name KamAZ-Chistogor.

The novelty is equipped with a traction battery created using NMC technology and having a capacity of 156.6 kW * h. The estimated range with the total weight of the car, taking into account the work of the superstructure for pressing garbage, is 100 km. Such a range, as a rule, allows you to carry out at least two cycles of garbage collection and unloading on one charge, which, in general, corresponds to the usual operation of garbage trucks in large cities, KamAZ reported.

"KamAZ-53198" also has the following characteristics:

  • load-carrying capacity of the chassis - 12 t;
  • load capacity of a garbage truck - 6 tons;
  • total weight of the car - 19.5 tons;
  • load on the driving bridge - 11.5 t;
  • load on the front axle - 8 t;
  • vehicle base - 4400 mm;
  • Maximum speed - 90 km/h;
  • surmountable slope - not less than 15%.

The truck also received a third-level ADAS driver assistance system of the City Pilot class, developed by specialists of the KamAZ Scientific and Technical Center, which corresponds to the semi-autonomous driving mode of the car. The driver acts as a controller operator and only sometimes interferes in the process of truck movement, "explained Sergey Nazarenko, chief designer of innovative cars at the Scientific and Technical Center.

According to him, the implemented technical solutions completely exclude emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere from the truck and radically reduce the noise level from the vehicle. As a result, you can clean up garbage, including at night, when city roads are free from traffic jams, as well as carry out safe movement on intra-quarter roads in conditions of their congestion with parked cars, the manufacturer notes.[2]
