2025: Transfer of the ship to the FSB of the Russian Federation

On December 9, 2025, at the production site of the Almaz shipbuilding company in St. Petersburg, a ceremony was held to raise the State Flag of Russia on the new Kholmsk patrol ship. The ship is intended for the Coast Guard of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia.

According to the official website of the St. Petersburg Metropolis, during the ceremony, the choir of the St. Nicholas-Epiphany Sea Cathedral led by Anastasia Sklyarova performed. The rector of the cathedral, Archpriest Alexy Sklyarov, performed a prayer service. He blessed the crew, wishing the servicemen health, the patronage of St. Nicholas and the help of God in serving for the benefit of the Motherland.

The border service of the FSB of the Russian Federation received a 71-meter patrol ship "Kholmsk"

According to the Made with Us website, the main tactical and technical characteristics (TTH) of the Purga project 22120 are: displacement - 1023 tons, overall length - 71 m, overall width - 10.5 m, draft - 3.37 m, maximum speed - 24 knots (44.45 km/h).

The Kholmsk patrol ship is the 12th production unit of project 22120, built at the Almaz shipyard. After passing the final stage of completion at the wall of the plant and subsequent tests, Kholmsk will be sent to serve in the Far East.

The ships of this project are already serving at basing points in Nevelsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, on the island of Shikotan, in Nakhodka and Murmansk.

Project 22120, which received the code "Purga," was originally developed by order of the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia. PKB Petrobalt LLC has developed a design of a large customs vessel in accordance with the terms of reference of 2005.

After the FCS refused to implement the project in 2009, the work was continued with the financing of the Border Service of the FSB of Russia. From that moment, the ships of this project began to be built for the needs of the Coast Guard.

Initially, Border Patrol documents classified them as Border Patrol Vessels (PPPs). Since 2018, the classification has changed to border patrol ships (PPKs) of the 2nd rank. Work on adaptation and revision of the initial project for the implementation of border tasks was carried out under the leadership of CJSC Spetsstroyproekt (city Moscow).[1][2][3][4]
