2026: Detecting a fault that causes a short circuit and a fire

On March 4, 2026, the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) announced the approval of a voluntary recall program for 33,013 Kia Rio cars (QB model). The reason for the recall of vehicles is the risk of short circuit and fire.

The recall program was initiated and sent for approval by Kia Russia and the CIS, the official representative of the Korean automaker Kia Motors on the Russian market. Cars sold on the Russian market from 2011 to 2018 are subject to recall. Rosstandart has published a list of VIN codes for vehicles subject to the service campaign.

Technical malfunction was detected in the fuse unit. To eliminate it, on all recalled cars, dealers will replace the multi-guard hydroelectronic control unit (HECU), which is responsible for the operation of the brake system. In addition, a correct sticker with information will be applied to the cover of the fuse unit to prevent errors during subsequent maintenance.

Kia Russia and CIS will inform owners of cars subject to recall by sending letters and phone calls demanding that the vehicle be provided to the nearest dealership for repair work. Owners can independently check the participation of their car in the recall campaign by checking the VIN code with the list published on the official website of Rosstandart.

In addition, you can check the car through a special service on the Auto.ru platform (the project of the company Yandex""), where the data is transferred by the agency as part of an information exchange agreement.

If a car is found in the list of the recall campaign, the owner must contact the dealership to agree on the date and time of the visit. All repair work, including replacement of components, will be carried out for owners free of charge.[1]

2022: 105,000 defective Kia cars recalled in Russia due to faulty airbag software

In Russia, more than 105 thousand defective Kia cars are being recalled due to faulty airbag software. This was announced by the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) on August 8, 2022.

The Kia Rio, Soul and Cerato models, which were produced between 2013 and 2018, fell under the service campaign. The reason for the recall of vehicles is that the SRS malfunction lamp on the instrument panel is on. Internal failure of AIR BAG module is possible. On all recalled cars, the AIR BAG module software will be updated, if necessary, it will be replaced, Rosstandart reported. All work will be carried out free of charge for motorists.

Owners of faulty machines will be notified by letter or phone. At the same time, owners can independently, without waiting for a message from an authorized dealer, determine whether their vehicle falls under the recall. To do this, you need to compare the VIN code of your own car with the list published on the Rosstandart website.

In February 2022, in North America, Kia announced the recall of 295,000 Sorento, Forte and Forte Koup, Optima Hybrid, Soul and Sportage cars due to "increased fire risk due to brake fluid leaks."

In the same month, it became known about the recall campaign initiated by the American divisions of Kia and Hyundai. 484,588 cars Kia Sportage, Hyundai Santa Fe of various modifications, Hyundai Tucson, as well as the Kia K900 sedan, released from 2014 to 2019, fell under it. The reason for the recall is due to possible problems in the ABS control unit, as a result of which it is possible to fire the car even with the engine turned off. Rosstandart did not announce such a revocable program by August 8, 2022.[2]
