2025: Launching

In December 2025, the Kildin crab processor of the KSP01 project entered the water area of the Gulf of Finland for sea trials. The ship went to the area of Gogland Island.

According to the press service of the OSK Krasnoye Sormovo plant, 51 people were involved in the tests, including the crew and the acceptance team. The planned duration of sea trials is five days. Before going to sea, experts completed the installation of a chimney and a gas-exhaust pipeline, and also checked the operability of all communication systems with the wheelhouse.

Giant vessel "Kildin" launched in Russia to catch crabs at a depth of 400 meters

"Kildin" is the second in a series of five crab processors under construction under the KSP01 project as part of the state program "Quotas for the keel." This program stimulates the construction of a new fishing fleet by securing quotas for catching aquatic biological resources for investors.

According to PortNews, Kildin was launched in April 2025. In early October 2025, the ship arrived in St. Petersburg for final preparation for testing. The first vessel of the series, the Vaigach, was launched in July 2022 and put into operation. Crab processors of the KSP01 project belong to high-tech commercial vessels. They are designed for crab fishing in the North Atlantic and Arctic waters at depths from 20 to 400 m.

The key feature of such ships is the presence of a full cycle of processing on board: after catching, the crab is immediately prepared and packed in vacuum packaging. According to PortNews, the vessel's performance allows processing up to 60 tons of Kamchatka crab daily.

The vessel has increased autonomy, which reaches 50 days. This characteristic allows you to transfer finished products to transport vessels directly at sea, without entering the port. Kildin is also able to conduct commercial activities in case of sea waves up to five points.[1][2]
