2021: Koios DS Breast Announcement - Ultrasound Breast Cancer Detection Software
In mid-March 2021, the developer of medical software based on IIKoios Medical released in Europe the Koios DS Breast medical decision support system for interpreting ultrasound images of the breast.
The developers claim that the new software increases the detection of breast cancer and simultaneously reduces the proportion of false positive results, effectively improving the accuracy of diagnosis and the quality of care provided to patients. Given the high prevalence of breast cancer, early detection is critical to increasing survival.
Koios DS Breast Smart Ultrasound AI software has been trained on more than 500,000 ultrasound images of both malignant and benign breast formations. The system assesses the probability of detecting malignancies using the BI-RADS scheme of the American College of Radiologists and the European five-point evaluation system to optimize the workflow and ensure the correct treatment path.
Despite advances in mammography, ultrasound remains the standard of diagnosis for women with dense breast. Cancer and dense tissue are indistinguishable from each other on the mammogram, making ultrasound the recommended and preferred imaging method for accurate diagnosis of abnormalities detected during routine screening. Using AI to analyze ultrasound images promises to reduce breast cancer mortality and the number of unnecessary biopsies worldwide by improving diagnostic accuracy.
Koios DS Breast software is used in conjunction with all major PACS platforms and is directly available in LOGIQTM E10, GE Healthcare's digital ultrasound system. The results of the examination can be exported directly to the patient's medical record.[1]
