2022: K1942VK018 chip at the heart of domestic Kraftway SSDs
On July 8, 2022, it became known that the company Kraftway announced (SSDs solid state drive,), SSD built on the basis of a domestic controller.
As reported, the chip was called K1942VK018. As of July 2022, the SSD drives built on it work in various systems assembled on domestic Elbrus processors from MCST. Read more here.
2019: Solid State Drive Controller Chip Creation
On October 18, 2019, Kraftway announced to TAdviser the creation of a chip for the first domestic disk controller and presented a prototype of its own solid state drive.
To develop its own electronic components for their subsequent integration use in trusted systems manufactured by the company in 2014, the company opened a design center, the first project of which was the creation of a disk controller chip. The project is carried out with co-financing Ministries of Industry and Trade RUSSIAN FEDERATION within the framework of state the program "Development of the electronic and radio-electronic industry." The work began in the 1st quarter of 2015 and is carried out in close cooperation with the scientific teams the Russian of universities - named after MSU Lomonosov and. MIPT The total cost of the project amounted to 850 million rubles, more than half of which was invested at the expense of Kraftway's own funds. For October 2019, the controller chip is in the process of production at the factory TSMC , the first Taiwan batch of chips will arrive in early December 2019.
All stages of the controller chip development: mathematical model, operation algorithms, architecture, development of all main IP blocks and interfaces, implementation from prototype to physical design - were carried out in Russia.
The controller core at the hardware level implements crypto transformation algorithms in accordance with GOST 34.12-2015 (Grasshopper). The corrective ability of the noise-resistant codec is 96 errors per 1 KB of data. The chip supports multi-channel operation with NAND memory (up to 8 channels with 8 independent write paths). The maximum read/write speed with encryption mode enabled is 500/600 MB/s.
The controller chip is designed to work with planar SLC/MLC and 3D NAND MLC memory from Micron and Toshiba. The housing of memory chips from Micron and Toshiba plates will be carried out by the Russian company GS Nanotech.
The maximum SSD capacity supported by the controller is 2 TB.
TNI will be available in two form factors: as an M.2 NGFF module for client devices and external USB 3.0 disk drives, as well as as a PCIe x4 card for installation in servers and DSS.
The volume of TNI for client devices will range from 256 GB to 1 TB. Servers and DSS are designed for more capacious (up to 2 TB) and faster PCIe solid-state drives, the hardware firmware of which is configured for high I/O performance and increased fault tolerance.
Kraftway solid-state drives information are designed primarily for use in information systems of state departments and organizations that have increased requirements for. information security Guaranteed power of attorney of domestic disk subsystems, built-in hardware cryptographic transformation based on the Russian algorithm repeatedly increase the security of data and computer equipment in general.
In 2020, Kraftway plans to release 10 thousand on the basis of its own controller. TNI in various form factors with capacities ranging from 256 GB to 2 TB. Production will be carried out at the Kraftway plant in Obninsk.
The next step in the development of the Kraftway TNI line will be the release of more capacious devices with increased speed for reading/writing information. To do this, the company has already begun a project to create a microcircuit for a high-speed solid-state drive controller with a maximum capacity of up to 16 TB, with a built-in streaming encryption module GOST R 34.12-2015 (Grasshopper) and support for 3D NAND TLC/QLC memory chips. The plans of the design center also include the development of various specialized integrated circuits (ASIC).
Commenting on the results of the work on the creation of the first own controller microcircuit and the presentation of the prototype of the first domestic TNI, Kraftway President A. Yu. Kravtsov noted:
Achieving a sufficient level of technological independence and ensuring information security in the production of computer equipment is impossible without the development of a domestic electronic component base. At the same time, the task of providing trusted data storage is one of the most urgent. The controller chip developed by Kraftway and the TNI line based on it greatly contribute to solving these problems. We expect that the Russian TNI manufactured by Kraftway will be in demand not only by state customers, but also by manufacturers of Russian computer equipment. |
