2021: Announcement of Kubota Glasses smart glasses for myopia treatment

At the end of January 2021, the Japanese company Kubota Pharmaceutical introduced smart glasses for the treatment of myopia, which project the image directly onto the user's retina. The company is also developing a device for correcting myopia such as contact lenses.

Kubota, which debuted on the Tokyo Stock Exchange startup market in December 2016, is developing drugs and devices to treat vision problems. Myopia is a widespread disease that is often due to too much distance between the cornea and the retina of the eye. This curvature interferes with the correct focus of light in the eyeball, which makes remote objects look blurred. Kubota Glasses project an image from the device lens onto the user's retina to correct the refraction error. According to the company, using the device for 60-90 minutes a day allows you to correct mild myopia.

Kubota Pharmaceutical does not disclose additional information about how the device works, but it is known that during further clinical trials, the manufacturer must determine how long the effect lasts after removing the glasses, as well as how many days the user must wear the device in order to achieve a constant correction of myopia. To assess the effectiveness of the device, Kubota conducts clinical studies involving approximately 25 people in the United States.
