2022: First flight
At the end of January 2022, a new aircraft for domestic airlines LMS-901 Baikal made its first flight. This is a product of the Baikal-Engineering company of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade reports.
Baikal takes into account the existing developments, as well as the wishes of the regions and operators, this project will revive transportation on local airlines, solve problems with ensuring transport accessibility, primarily in the Far East, - explained the head of the department Denis Manturov. |
In accordance with the flight mission, 1st class test pilot Valentin Lavrentiev performed maneuvers to check the stability and controllability of the aircraft in the air. According to the pilot, the flight mission was completed in full, the aircraft systems operated normally.
The nine-seater Baikal is capable of cruising up to 300 km per hour, and the maximum flight range is expected to be 3,000 km (with a payload of two tons - 1,500 km).
"Baikal" should replace the Soviet An-2, the ministry notes. The An-2 is known as the "maize man," it made its first flight in 1947. One of the most popular Soviet aircraft reaches speeds of up to 236 kilometers per hour and flies at distances of up to 990 kilometers. "Corn" is designed for 12 passengers or cargo weighing up to 1.5 tons.
The launch of mass production of Baikal is scheduled for 2024. The Ministry of Industry and Trade expects that in addition to passenger traffic, Baikal will be able to solve many tasks, including the transportation of goods, flying in the interests of air ambulance, patrolling and monitoring. It will also find application in aviation security, the performance of aviation agricultural work, the department noted.[1] FLIGHT
