LUCA: Big Data as a Service (BDaaS)

The companies Telefónica and Huawei at the end of March, 2018 announced cooperation within start of a solution package based on Big Data. These tools are addressed to the enterprises which want to develop own internal scenarios of use and to sell applications on work with data to the clients.

The solutions proposed according to the "Big Data as service" model (Big Data as a Service (BDaaS)) will be on sale under the LUCA brand, the belonging Telefónica and providing services based on Big Data.

Initially clients will get access to four key services:

  • to the Hortonworks Data Platform platform as the service helping to store, process and analyze data;
  • "Integration of Big Data" (Big Data Integration) for data transfer in a cloud;
  • Data Governance for quality control and safety of data;
  • and Data Miner for receiving materials using analytical algorithms and complex integration of the structured and unstructured data.

Each of above-mentioned services can be independently started by the client on demand. They do not depend on infrastructure and, thus, can be started in different environments like "infrastructure as service".

Providing services on demand helps clients to avoid a long cycle of purchase of the hardware and to save means and also reduces the product output term to the market.

According to Telefónica and Huawei, other services will be added to a solution package also soon. The agreement also provides opening of app store.

Partnership with Huawei will help Telefónica company to expand the portfolio of the solutions connected with data analysis and Big Data.
