At the end of October 2022, the government of the Leningrad Region reported that the regional digital waste transportation system now tracks the online work of more than 850 construction waste carriers in the region.

According to the press service of the regional administration, in accordance with the new requirements, all carriers of construction waste registered in the digital control system of the government of the Leningrad Region and equipped their vehicles with GLONASS satellite navigation equipment. Thus, data on the route fall into the regional information and navigation system of the Leningrad region.

{{quote "The system allows you to check even deviations from the route. After the end of the testing regime, its capabilities will be expanded, "says Marine Tonoyan, Chairman of the State Environmental Supervision Committee of the Leningrad Region. - This method of digital control minimizes the possibility of landfill in forests and on roadsides. }} According to her, by the end of 2022, about 1.5 thousand carriers are supposed to register in the system. Thus, every car of a licensed carrier will be supervised, he added.

The regional administration added that eco-supervision inspectors use the application during interdepartmental raids, which allows you to check a specific car online for violations of transportation rules. For lack of connection to the system, administrative liability and fines of up to a million rubles are provided.

According to Kommersant, according to various estimates, up to 12 million tons of waste of this type is formed in St. Petersburg and the region, and a significant part settles in illegal landfills. Experts interviewed by the newspaper doubt that the introduction of a monitoring system will significantly change the situation with transportation, but consider this a step in the right direction.[1]
