2025: Identifying buggy software that causes the digital dashboard to go completely out while driving

At the end of December 2025, the Japanese corporation Toyota announced the recall of premium SUVs Lexus LX 600 due to problems with onboard software. The error causes the digital dashboard to go completely out while driving.

The defect was detected in cars produced from August 1, 2023 to October 2, 2024. On such machines, after starting the engine, the display of the dashboard may completely disappear the image. In this case, the driver will not see the speedometer readings, warning signals and other important information. In certain situations, this can increase the risk of a traffic accident. At the end of December 2025, incidents related to the described defect were not reported.

The problem is related to the incorrect operation of the dashboard control algorithms. The recall includes more than 430 Lexus LX 600 SUVs that will be updated with software. All work will be carried out free of charge for motorists.

Earlier, Toyota recalled a total of approximately 62 thousand Lexus RZ300e, Lexus RZ450e and Toyota bZ4X cars. For these machines, due to a software error in the electronic control unit, the windshield heating system may not work correctly. As a result, frost, ice and/or fogging can impair the view for the driver and increase the risk of an accident. No traffic accidents related to this defect have been reported. To eliminate the problem, dealership specialists will update the software of the heating control unit. In addition, engineers will check for free and, if necessary, replace the electric compressor of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems on recalled vehicles.[1]
