2025: Market Entry
At the end of December 2025, the American company Zoll announced the release of a next generation wearable cardioverter-defibrillator LifeVest. The device focuses primarily on patients at risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD).
The threat of SCD occurs when the heart stops pumping blood effectively, leading to instant loss of consciousness and respiratory arrest. This condition occurs unexpectedly, without previous long-term signs: even people who previously did not know about heart problems may encounter it. The most common causes of SCD are ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation. Risk factors include coronary artery disease, history of myocardial infarction, heart failure, hypertension, arrhythmias, genetic disorders, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, overweight, etc.
The LifeVest device is made in the form of a vest for wearing under ordinary clothes. The control unit with the display can be attached to the belt or shoulder strap. The device continuously monitors the heart rate and, when life-threatening abnormalities are detected, supplies an electrical discharge to normalize cardiac activity.
The next generation LifeVest product provides increased comfort with a lightweight, breathable fabric designed specifically for everyday wear. The vest is easy to wear and tight to the skin. The easy-to-use fastener is closed with one click. Thanks to its wide range of sizes, the device is suitable for people with any kit. The device uses algorithms based on artificial intelligence, designed to minimize the likelihood of false positives. A companion mobile app allows you to view useful information, including health data.[1]
