On June 1, 2023, the U.S. company Penumbra, based in California, unveiled the Lightning Bolt 7 medical complex. This is said to be the most advanced and powerful arterial thrombectomy system on the market.

The device implements a new method of removing blood clots - the so-called modulated aspiration, in which the Lightning intelligent aspiration technology developed by Penumbra is combined with an improved microprocessor algorithm. The system makes it possible to quickly remove large fibrous blood clots in the arteries with minimal blood loss.

It is noted that the unique Lightning Bolt 7 mechanism provides "modulated aspiration at the tip of the catheter," allowing procedures to remove blood clots with high efficiency. Traditional methods require open surgery, which is often associated with amputation. The new Penumbra, in particular, helps to avoid acute ischemia of the limb - this is a severe vascular disease that threatens the loss of a leg or arm. In addition, the system prevents arterial occlusion.

Innovative developments such as Lightning Bolt 7 provide physicians with cutting-edge opportunities to treat patients and improve therapy outcomes, said Kalyan Veerina, a cardiologist and MD at CIS Cardiovascular Disease Institute.

It is also said that the high-tech components of the Lightning Bolt 7 system provide a high level of security. Combined with the speed and effectiveness of thrombus removal, this will facilitate the use of an endovascular approach in more patients, which will eliminate the need for open surgical operations.^[1]
