2024: Creation of MRI PAC
On November 25, 2024 MEPHI , they announced the creation of a complex for checking the accuracy of magnetic resonance imaging devices - PAC. MRI
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods are used in high-precision radiation treatment to determine the boundaries of a pathological target. Since the size of the tumor can be only a few millimeters, it is crucial to conduct regular tomograph checks for geometric distortions. A joint product of the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" and the Center "Gamma Knife Moscow" - a software and hardware complex to guarantee the quality of magnetic resonance imaging - will make it possible to make these checks routine.
In November 2024, the product is being tested at the Academician N. N. Burdenko National Medical Research Institute of Neurosurgery and at the Hadassah Medical Clinic.
The product is a cylindrical phantom that is scanned for MRI and software that processes the resulting images to detect geometric distortions. According to the project leader, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor of the Department of Medical Physics of IFIB NRNU MEPhI, Alexandra Dalechina, the use of the developed complex by medical physicists creates the opportunity to check any tomograph for compliance with the requirements of stereotactic radiation, increasing the quality of treatment.
Future plans include scaling the product to different device designs, as well as finding customers. In Russia, as of November 2024, 120 stereotactic radiation therapy centers and more than 750 MRI centers. All of them are potential customers of the device. In addition, it is planned to supply a software and hardware complex complete with a domestic tomograph manufactured by Rosatom Health Technologies.
