2025: Product Announcement

On April 17, 2025, Sanoculis, a company specializing in ophthalmic technologies, announced the release of the MINT (Minimally Invasive Nasal Trabeculostomy) system for the minimally invasive treatment of glaucoma. The implementation of the solution is said to contribute to improved outcomes in adult patients.

Glaucoma is a chronic ophthalmic pathology that is characterized by a progressive and irreversible decrease in visual acuity due to a persistent increase in intraocular pressure. Glaucoma is the second most common cause of blindness (after cataracts). It is estimated that the disease affects about 76 million people worldwide. This number is expected to rise to 112 million by 2040. The disease is more often detected in the elderly, but congenital and youthful forms occur. Treatment can be performed surgically or conservatively: therapy is aimed at reducing and stabilizing intraocular pressure, regulating ocular hydrodynamics, as well as preventing optic atrophy in order to maintain vision and improve the patient's quality of life.

A device for the treatment of glaucoma has come out, which makes a minimum of incisions

The reason for the increase in intraocular pressure is the clogging of the drainage system of the eye - the trabecular network through which the fluid flows. For this reason, the fluid cannot leave the eye at the same rate at which it is produced, which provokes an increase in pressure. The MINT system uses unique mechanical semi-automatic technology to create tiny holes in the trabecular network. This helps to filter the accumulated fluid.

MINT is a safe and effective means of reducing intraocular pressure, reducing the need for glaucoma medicines, says Nir Israeli, co-founder and CEO of Sanoculis.[1]
