2024: Presentation of software for oil and gold miners

B MIPT developed an independent import for software oil industry workers gold miners. The university announced this on September 26, 2024.

The digital solution proposed by MIPT employees allows, by processing field data electrical exploration, to determine the presence of mineral deposits in the study area. This progressive approach significantly reduces the risks of unproductive drilling during production.

Electrical exploration is a geophysical survey method based on determining the electrical properties of subsurface space. By transmitting electrical signals from the day surface and recording caused fields on it, information can be obtained about the composition of the soil, the presence of fluids, precious metals, oil and gas. At the same time, clarifies Vasily Golubev, a leading researcher at the MIPT Laboratory of Applied Computational Geophysics, it is not required to conduct drilling work for this.

With the help of specialized software, you can build a 3D model of the investigated area. The basis of the "digital map of the area" is electrical exploration data. Analyzing this information, you can not only study the structure of the proposed field, but also determine the quality of reserves (types of precious metals, the presence of oil or gas in the area). Also, the use of computer modeling methods allows you to accurately determine the location of minerals in the territory, which reduces the risk of drilling a well in the wrong place, "continued Vasily Golubev.

The software was developed by the MIPT Laboratory of Applied Computational Geophysics from scratch in the C++ programming language without the use of any commercial or third-party libraries. This completely solves the problem of external dependencies or restrictions on its application to any projects of domestic mining companies. taking into account the existing difficulties with the purchase of licenses for foreign software products for companies in the oil and gas sector, this fact is a significant plus.

By September 26, 2024, a calculation core was developed and tested in detail, which allows the laboratory team to carry out commercial work in two directions: calculation of electric and magnetic fields and impedance for a given model of the geological massif; restoring a three-dimensional model of physical properties of the medium from electromagnetic field or impedance measurement data.

{{quote 'We refer to the advantages of the software developed by us, firstly, its effective parallelization to multi-core and multiprocessor systems, which allows us to carry out calculations on full-size geological models in a short time. Secondly, the use of specially designed preconditioning technologies ensures much faster convergence of numerical solutions. In addition, the software can be easily adapted to the specifics of the work and the needs of a particular customer, "said Vasily" "Leading Researcher of the Laboratory of Applied Computational Geophysics at MIPT Golubev.
