2023: System Announcement
On April 4, 2023, Medtronic announced the MRI Care Pathway complex, a specialized system for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with implanted cardiac devices.
Studies show that 50% to 70% of all patients with a pacemaker or implantable cardioverter defibrillators need MRI during their lifetime. However, often such people are forced to wait a long time for an examination due to the lack of suitable equipment or the need to pre-check such systems.
The MRI Care Pathway platform includes a website and tablet app that healthcare providers can use to reduce possible delays during the MRI workflow. The application contains special algorithms that issue a warning if scanning a particular patient can be associated with certain risks. This provides the maximum level of safety and a personalized approach to treatment.
Prior to the implementation of MRI Care Pathway, cardiologists, MRI specialists, and/or clinic staff needed to coordinate to check the patient's pacemaker's MRI compatibility. Doctors can now use the website to quickly assess the safety of the procedure and obtain recommendations for performing scans. The application is compatible with Medtronic's SureScan family of products, including pacemakers, heart resynchronization devices, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, etc. After the scan, the analyst can use the program to return the patient's cardiac device to its previous settings. Overall, the new platform can provide increased flexibility and efficiency by providing people with timely access to MRI tools.[1]
