2019: Start of a product for digital control of employees "MTS the Snowflake"

On December 5, 2019 it became known that the MTS company created the internal software product which is designed to accumulate all data on communications of her employees.

According to the head of an IT cluster "Infrastructure and internal automation" of the operator of MTS Maxim Halmatov, the product which received the name "Snowflake" represents a certain digital profile of the employee and works at a basis of Social Network Analysis that can literally be translated as the analysis of social networks.

It is fine the fact that it is the excellent tool for HR, for heads. He allows to estimate that happens to the employee with whom it communicates, what his activity in the company. Also issues recommendations of how to develop the employee and that with him next to do.

The top manager noted that in MTS the so-called concept of a digital working space of employees which including promotes innovation of workflow is implemented and motivates personnel on achievement of new heights.

We are sure that it will be increase in communications, joint activity, increase in the involvement of the employee and as a result increase in return at investments. The employee works with us longer, we spend for search, for pumping of the necessary skills and competences less, commands work quicker, issue quicker value on the product.

The digital profile of the employee includes data on its main working communications, a hobby and hobbies, on the level of interest in tasks, on load of the calendar and the most visited pages on corporate portals.

Among sources of information mobile data, e-mail, the IP telephony, Skype for business — marked "processing of metadata, without access to a context using machining of data" are listed.

The press service of MTS could not comment on the statement of the top manager within three working days. Therefore it is not quite clear whether all the staff of the company (them, on Halmatov's assurance, over 65 thousand) are covered by Snowflake, and whether data only from working communication links or from open non-working social networks are collected too.

Also in the company did not explain what mobile communication her employees — on office mainly use (or even paid by MTS) to rates or at own expense.

As specified in MTS, Snowflake is the development aimed at the development of additional mechanisms of motivation of personnel and search of new perspectives for employee development in the company.

We analyze activity of employees in internal sources of communications and we predict which of employees can be potentially interested in transition to other positions to MTS for whom additional resources for preserving of balance of work and private life what new systems of motivation can be useful and demanded are required. For analytics only corporate assets of communications without access to their subject and contents are used — only quantitative parameters are analyzed (for example, regularity of sending letters to colleagues from related department). As the first results of testing of the project it is possible to note that the share of hiring of staff of the company for the positions opened in MTS grew by 17%.[1]
