2018: Announcement
At the beginning of January, 2018 the Kolibree company provided a toothbrush for children under the name Magik which turns tiresome occupation into a game. The producer says that it is the first toothbrush which motivates and teaches children to brush correctly teeth, using for this purpose technologies of augmented reality.
The Magik Mirror application for the smartphone with the help of the camera defines provision of a toothbrush and its movement that allows to reveal insufficiently cleaned sections. This technique formed a basis for a game in which the child is involved. Thanks to technology of augmented reality, during toothbrushing he battles against the angry monsters microbes menacing to take an oral cavity. For a victory the child should clean carefully all teeth in a certain order that is reflected in the application.
It is not the first attempt to diversify approach to toothbrushing at children. In 2014 the Grush company created a toothbrush with the built-in motion sensor working with the help of mobile application for games. Two years later Intel brought the new Grush toothbrush to the market. However, unlike Grush, the Magik application uses technology of augmented reality to combine video in real time and the amusing digital effects turning occupation, boring for the child, into a game.
To prevent abuse of the application (at any age excess toothbrushing can injure gums), it will be possible to use a game only three once a day. Besides, parents will receive the notification on each activation of the application on the smartphone of the child in which time and duration of use of a toothbrush will also be specified.
So far the application can be used only on the smartphone, but Kolibree says that in the future it can be built in smart mirrors. The Kolibree Magik toothbrush was available for sale and costs less than $30.[1]
