2023: Manjaro Linux 22.1 with simplified installation process
On April 22, 2023, it became known that the Manjaro Linux 22.1 distribution was released, built on the basis of Arch Linux and aimed at novice users. The distribution kit is notable for the presence of a simplified and user-friendly installation process, support for automatic identification of equipment and installation of the drivers necessary for its operation. Manjaro comes as live assemblies with KDE (3.9 GB), GNOME (3.8 GB) and Xfce (3.8 GB) graphics environments. With the participation of the community, assemblies with Budgie, Cinnamon, Deepin, LXDE, LXQt, MATE and i3 are further developed.
Manjaro uses its own BoxIt toolkit designed in the Git image to manage repositories. The repository is supported by the principle of continuous inclusion of updates (rolling), but updated versions go through an additional stage of stabilization. In addition to its own repository, there is support for using the AUR (Arch User Repository) repository. The distribution kit is equipped with a graphical installer and a graphical interface for configuring the system.
Features of the release:
- The main edition of the distribution continues to ship Xfce 4.18.
- The GNOME-based edition has been updated to GNOME 43.5. The system status menu has been redone, which offers a block with buttons for quickly changing the most frequently used settings. The appearance switch supports the creation of your own dynamic wallpaper. Added the Graduation application to customize the skin.
- KDE-based revision updated to KDE Plasma 5.27 and KDE Gear 22.12.
- Three packages with the Linux kernel are offered for download: 6.1, 5.10 and 5.15.
- The Pamac package manager has been updated to release 10.5[1].
2021: Vivaldi's default browser selection for Manjaro Linux Cinnamon
On September 9, 2021, Vivaldi announced that Vivaldi had become the default browser on the Arch distribution of Manjaro in Cinnamon. The browser has become available to Manjaro users.
According to Vivaldi, Cinnamon is the most famous version of Manjaro. It is one of the most commonly used operating systems for Linux, which in turn combines with the design functionality and philosophy of Vivaldi.
The Vivaldi browser is available for PCs running Windows, Mac and Linux, as well as on Android devices. The browser is one of the secure, flexible and customized web browsing solutions. Vivaldi is available on most Linux distributions, including Linux-based ARM devices, including the Raspberry Pi. It's simple and quick to install.
"As of September 9, 2021, Manjaro is providing the most recent version of Vivaldi, and thanks to direct contact with developers, we can now also include suitable default themes for all of our versions. I decided to include Vivaldi as the default browser in our Cinnamon Community Edition. High page browsing speed, easy customizability and privacy of use Internet for me became the reason to call Vivaldi an excellent pair for Manjaro Linux, "- noted the CEO of Manjaro GmbH & Co. KG, Bernhard Landauer. |
Personalization and enhanced web browsing for Manjaro users
Linux provides users with the ability to customize the software to take into account their preferences and habits. While most browsers allow you to customize only the main functions to your preferences, this is not the case with Vivaldi.
Vivaldi settings make working with more tabs much easier. Batch grouping of tabs enhances the ability to manage multiple open pages. Users can choose from three different tab grouping styles: compact, two-level, or batch. When using batch grouping, the user can expand and collapse tab groups in one click, freeing up the workspace in the panel.
Vivaldi allows you to customize browser menus and shortcuts, and also offers the function of command chains - a customizable sequence of commands that run simultaneously without the need to individually run each action.
The Vivaldi browser is fast enough thanks to the large number of built-in functions and options for their use. All browser user interface elements, such as the toolbar, status bar, tab bar, and address bar, are easily customized for user tasks.
Customizing browser themes, which also includes "Manjaro-Cinnamon," helps users change the design of the interface so that it fits the color gamut of the operating system.
"We are thrilled that Manjaro has chosen Vivaldi. Like Manjaro, there are a large number of Linux fans among Vivaldi users who will be happy about the news that the browser is now available by default OS in for Linux. We hope Manjaro users enjoy working with Vivaldi, "- says Vivaldi CEO Jon von Techner. |
Privacy and Security
Privacy is of great importance to users of both Vivaldi and Manjaro. The main principle of Vivaldi is that everything that the user does in the browser does not concern anyone. That is why Vivaldi never monitors the actions of its users, does not collect their data and does not compromise on privacy issues.
Vivaldi blocks technologies that violate user privacy. End-to-end enciphering provides safety data in the browser and also helps limit unnecessary tracking. The built-in blocker advertizing and surveillance blocks targeted ads on both mobile devices Android and PC versions.
Beta versions of Vivaldi Mail, Vivaldi Feed Reader and Vivaldi Calendar for PCs offer users full functionality to work online . This is a safe alternative to the ecosystems of large IT companies that collect data on each user action through such services.
Vivaldi browser on Manjaro Linux
Before adding to Manjaro Cinnamon, the appearance and functionality of the Vivaldi browser were adapted to Manjaro. In order to provide greater performance and quickly respond to any user comments about the browser, the developers of the two companies constantly interact. Manjaro also has access to advanced Vivaldi configurations so that users get all the browser capabilities right on the Linux desktop.
How to install Vivaldi on Manjaro Linux
Despite the fact that Vivaldi will now be installed by default on any of the latest Cinnamon Edition versions, it is also available in official Manjaro vaults. In order to install it, you need to select a browser in the function manager and click "download."
