McAfee Anti-Theft

The McAfee company, the world famous developer of the complex software for protection of computers against cyber-threats, provided the Anti-Theft technology developed together with Intel company for improvement of security of the mobile device of the class Intel Ultrabook. The hardware-software technology will allow to protect important user data from theft at loss of the notebook.

As shows the research Ponemon Institute of 2007, mobile computers vanish each 53 seconds. At airports of the USA alone about 12000 systems are lost every week, at the same time for 46% from them the confidential data which are not protected by enciphering are stored.

The hardware-software complex of measures of McAfee Anti-Theft is built in notebooks of the class Intel Ultrabook on the basis of the Intel processors Core of the 3rd generation at the level of the hardware — all technologies work irrespective of the operating system that protection could not be turned off standard means. Besides, the functionality of McAfee Anti-Theft for Intel Ultrabook notebooks includes remote detection and tracking the mobile computer through GPS, 3G or Wi-fi networks and also management of all necessary parameters via the convenient web interface, data encryption on the winchester, access lock to valuable information.

The Anti-Theft technology includes a number of functions which allow to protect the notebook in case of loss of the device or data. For example:

• A system can be blocked using a so-called "poisonous pill" which prevents loading process accomplishment even at change of an order of loading, replacement or formatting of the hard drive. Irrespective of a computer status at its awakening verification of presence of "a poisonous pill" which can be sent in any manner, including the text message is executed.
• A system can be blocked on condition of lack of contact with the central server if preset time of registration is missed. The connection test interval with the server is established by the IT administrator. If time of registration is passed, a system is blocked until the user or the IT administrator does not execute its repeated activation.
• Detection and protection against unauthorized access. The technology of Intel of AT traces incidents of unauthorized access to components, such as withdrawal of the CMOS accumulator, a large number of repeated attempts of login and so on, and automatically blocks the notebook.
• The configured message "The theft mode" allows the IT administrator to send the message to any who will start the notebook and to notify him that this notebook stolen.

At present the hardware-software complex of McAfee Anti-Theft is already available in notebooks of the class Intel Ultrabook of leading manufacturers. The price of a packet recommended by the developer is $24.99 for a year of use of all functions.
