2023: Development of a NOL nociception monitoring device
On June 14, 2023, it became known that Medasense Biometrics had developed a NOL device for monitoring nociception (physiological response to pain).
The multi-parameter sensory platform NOL and algorithmic intelligence convert complex data into a patient's personal "pain signature." The technology, which as of June 2023 is already used in operating rooms and other places where patients cannot communicate, allows doctors to personalize pain management, control pain and avoid overdosing.
It is estimated that half of surgical patients suffer from moderate to severe postoperative pain, and 12% suffer from adverse events caused by taking painkillers. This can lead to prolonged hospitalization, additional health care costs, and a 50% increase in readmissions.
Studies have shown that intraoperative monitoring with the NOL system can reduce the postoperative pain experienced by patients in the postoperative unit and potentially reduce the cost of treatment.
NOL technology is distributed by Medtronic in Western Europe, and Medasense has a distribution network in Canada, Israel and other countries. After obtaining approval for use from the American health industry regulatory agency (FDA), this system will also be used in the United States.
Our mission is to help patients suffer less from pain and the adverse effects of painkillers. We are proud to offer a unique intraoperative pain meter, says Galit Zuckerman-Stark, head of Medasense[1]. |
