Start of support of NB-IoT Cat-NB2 devices in 59 regions of Russia

On November 13, 2019 Megafon reported that it starts support of generation of devices of Internet of Things of NB-IoT Cat-NB2 in 59 regions of Russia.

The NB-IoT Cat-NB2 technology provides data transfer rate to 130 Kbps that is 5 times faster than the acting generation of Internet of Things. The main advantages of NB-IoT — a big range of one base station, a progressive tense of independent operation of devices and high penetration of a signal that allows sensors and devices to work confidently in buildings with difficult internal construction and in basements.

Now our Internet of Things is 5 times faster in comparison with the fact that can show network of the current generation. Besides the technology differs also in energy efficiency – you connect to the water flow rate sensor in the apartment the normal battery, and the device itself will transfer indications on a mobile network within 6-8 years,

NB-IoT Megafon

Together with the producer of MediaTek chips specialists of Megafon held testing of commercial NB2 devices. Use of functionality of Dual HARQ in them provided data transfer rate about 130 Kbps that in some cases will allow the enterprises of the industry, power, housing and public utilities to cut down expenses on IT infrastructure and instead of several sensors to use one sending device.

According to the research agency AC&M Consulting for the beginning 3 quarters 2019 Megafon services more than 8 million different IoT-devices and on this indicator wins first place in Russia from market shares of 43%. Since the beginning of 2019 the number of the SIM cards of the operator involved in "smart" sensors grew by 1 million units. Additional demand for IoT services will be provided further by housing sector – since July 1, 2020 all new apartment and private houses are recommended to be equipped with the automated electric power counters.

Among IoT-solutions of Megafon a specific place is held by socially important projects. In the territory of Krasnoyarsk Krai and the Republic of Khakassia the operator ensures functioning of mobile cardiographs in ambulance cars. In Tyumen and Nizhnevartovsk IoT of Megafon is used in operation of "smart" traffic lights, and in Syktyvkar more than 6 thousand SIM cards of the operator help to manage street lighting. On mountain cuts of Kuzbass and Chelyabinsk SIM cards of Megafon provide monitoring of movement of BelAZ, fuel refuelers and the auxiliary equipment. In 2019 NB-IoT sensors are a basis of a monitoring system of CHPP-1 in Yoshkar-Ola.

Start of NB-IoT in Yekaterinburg

On April 26, 2019 MegaFon reported that for "communication" of services and devices of Internet of Things in Yekaterinburg - the capital of the Urals, the separate network appeared. MegaFon started the NB-IoT standard (Narrow band – Internet of things – narrow-band Internet of Things) on the existing network segment. It is already ready to service millions of counters, sensors, sensors and other devices in the megalopolis.

The network for "machines" will help development of modern solutions and effective processes on production. NB-IoT will allow to reduce costs of business and state structures at implementation of smart devices, its feature – the increased capacity of network. Devices in this standard are almost independent and can work up to 10 years without recharge.

The specifics of implementation of NB-IOT network guarantee a big scope, a wide covering and penetration into buildings and also basement and semibasement premises. Thus, the sensors installed, for example, in workshops, the plants with dense walls or in the cellar will be able successfully to work and send necessary data.

In our network about 150 smart devices appear every day. And it only the beginning. For communication of such huge number of things also the reliable standard – NB-IoT is necessary separate, convenient, profitable to business. Thanks to grouping of stations based on which this standard is started we are ready to creation of large-scale network for communication of billions of various devices.
