2021: Mercedes introduced the all-electric E-Class
In early September 2021, Mercedes-Benz introduced the E-Class fully electric sedan, which debuts at the 2021 Munich Motor Show. The novelty was called Mercedes-Benz EQE.
According to the manufacturer, the electric car has a design with one bow and an unusually long wheelbase, the front part without a radiator grille with sharp headlights and the rear part on which the light strip dominates. This is not a copy of his older brother, but he is easy to identify as a representative of the growing line of electric vehicles under the EQ brand, the press release said.
At the start of sales, EQE will be available exclusively with a rear electric motor connected to a 90.6 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. It will drive the rear wheels with a power of 288 horsepower, which is enough for the sedan, whose weight is not disclosed at the time of the announcement, to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.6 seconds and develop a maximum speed limited to 209 miles per hour. Mercedes-Benz states that the maximum range is 660 km, although this figure is obtained according to the optimistic European cycle. The EPA will be several orders of magnitude lower.
As expected, driving assistance systems are abundant, but many of them are included in the list of options. The list of features for which customers can pay extra includes the Airmatic air suspension system, the rear steering system, the display, Active Steering Assist and the Active Brake Assist system with Cross-Traffic Function. The lane assistance system is included in the standard configuration when buying a car.
Mercedes-Benz dealers in the United States will begin to receive EQE in 2022. Prices will be announced closer to the start date of sales, it is expected that it will cost more than the E-Class, the base price of which is $54 thousand. When the car appears on sale, the model will compete with the Audi E-Tron GT, BMW i4 and Tesla Model S.[1]
