Electric Vehicle Capabilities
In mid-August 2021, Mercedes-Benz began accepting orders in Europe for the purchase of the EQS electric sedan in Europe. The cost of the new flagship electric car of the German automaker is €106 thousand. A configurator is available to customers in which they can select various options.
Two main versions of EQS are proposed: EQS 450 + and EQS 580 4MATIC. Air software updates will also be available for the electric car and the automaker has already announced three updates available at launch:
1. Personalization package with additional Roaring Pulse sound and several mini-games (Tetris, Sudoku, Pairs, Shuffle Puck). The package also includes additional DIGITAL LIGHT animations for opening and closing doors (12 months of use are included in the purchase price, after which it can be extended through Mercedes me for €89).
2. Two special driving modes are novice driver mode and parking mode (package cost: €50).
3. Highlight mode: the car presents itself and its equipment activated by voice assistant using a voice command (Hey, Mercedes!).
The automaker also talks about limited software that can be unlocked using a separate update. Mercedes-Benz cited an example of its rear axle steering, which at the software level is blocked by 4.5 °, but can be increased to 10 ° for €1.5 thousand.
All these technologies are controlled by the on-board digital assistant MBUX, which can be called like Alexa, saying "Hey, Mercedes." Then the assistant can be asked in natural language to find the destination, play the song from the streaming music service, adjust the four-zone temperature in the cabin or even change the position of one of the four seats. Microphones throughout the cabin allow MBUX to determine the passenger's location, so it's enough for him to say "Hey, Mercedes. Turn on my seat massager, "the system will find and activate it in the right position. MBUX can also specify the direction to the nearest fast charging station.
This car has an aerodynamic drag coefficient. 20, which is a complete world record. Such extreme aerodynamics contributes to the fact that the estimated EQS range with an available 107.8 kVt⋅ch battery pack is about 564 km, which almost corresponds to most available electric vehicles, "said Gorden Wagener, head of global design at Mercedes. |
Most importantly, the cabin looks like a luxurious S-class, with soft leather, deep carpeting, polished wood and jewelry-ridden metal trim, and all this is ringed with threads of continuously adjustable color lighting. The EQS body is also equipped with insulation to enhance the silence inherent in the electric engine.
As noted in the press release, the car itself has many very expensive options, but this corresponds to the level of the premium German automaker.[1]
Announcement of the electric car Mercedes-Benz EQS
In mid-April 2021, Mercedes-Benz officially introduced its first luxury electric car - EQS. It will become part of the S-class car family.
The interior of the EQS is more like a futuristic spacecraft cabin than a regular car. It has three displays: one large on the front panel, about 1.4 m wide, and two screens for passengers in the rear seats. EQS will also include an augmented reality system, including a projection display.
It is known that EQS will be the first electric car on the new Mercedes-Benz platform and will be equipped with new generation batteries with a significantly higher energy density, which provides a larger range. The manufacturer says that a full battery charge is enough for a trip of 770 km.
At the start of sales, customers will be offered two modifications: the rear-wheel drive EQS 450 + 33 hp and the all-wheel drive EQS 580 4Matic 524 hp. Up to 100 km/h, they accelerate in 6.2 and 4.3 seconds, respectively, the maximum speed in both cases is limited to 210 km/h. Both models are equipped with a 107.8 kilowatt-hour battery.
The electric vehicle is also equipped with a variety of functions to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers, including a new driver assistance system that can control the speed and braking of the car, as well as help in other situations, for example, when changing the lane or keeping the car in a given lane. By default, the rear wheels turn 4.5 degrees, but you can choose an option with 10 degrees - in this case, the turning radius of the 5.2-meter car will decrease from 11.9 to 10.9 meters.
The EQS system is designed to exceed the expectations of even the most demanding customers, "said Ola Kaellenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz and Daimler[2] |
2020: Features of the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric car
In December 2020, Mercedes-Benz revealed some details about its EQS premium electric car. One of its features will be sterile air cleanliness in the cabin.
According to the official statement of the German automaker, the car received an innovative climatic installation, which will make the air in the cabin "as clean as in the operating room." To do this, the air purification system uses high-performance HEPA filters, which will protect the driver and passengers from penetration into the cabin of the smallest particles and bacteria.
The company noted that for the first time in the history of the automotive industry, the degree of protection will comply with the DIN EN 1822 standard. A 10 liter filter will be able to trap dust, nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxide, as well as eliminate unpleasant odors.
The new filtering system has become part of the Progressive Luxury strategy, according to which Mercedes-Benz "will open customers to innovative technologies and environmentally friendly mobility services." One of these services is Mercedes me Charge. Starting next year, the company will begin to provide a guarantee that the electricity used for each charging session is obtained from renewable energy sources. Owners of Mercedes-EQ models and chargeable hybrids will have access to the terminals.
HEPA filters are already somewhat used by Tesla. Previously, they were offered as an option, and since 2018 they have been included in the standard equipment of the Model S and Model X. In 2019, the American electric car manufacturer introduced filters also as additional equipment for early models at a price of $500.
Mercedes-Benz EQS is expected to enter the market in 2021. It is expected that the electric car will be able to drive without recharging more than 700 km. The novelty will receive an updated infotainment system MBUX with artificial intelligence[3]
