2025: Product Announcement
At the end of October 2025, Wrap Technologies announced the development of a Merlin-Interdictor unmanned aerial vehicle to immobilize criminals or violators of order. This rapid response drone fires special cables, shackling a person's movements without causing physical injury.
The drone is made according to the quadcopter scheme. It is equipped with a BolaWrap system: it is a non-lethal decontamination device, the principle of which is based on firing a Kevlar cord. Such a cable wraps a person's legs or torso several times, limiting his movements. As a result, the suspect either falls or is deprived of the opportunity to actively move. BolaWrap is used to detain persons in situations where they show aggression, try to hide or pose a danger to themselves and others.
In the case of Merlin-Interdictor, the BolaWrap system is used from a specially equipped drone. The drone can fire several shots to immobilize the criminal. You can use such a countermeasure system, including indoors - for example, in educational institutions or in office spaces.
The developers note that thanks to BolaWrap, drones are turning from passive surveillance devices into active non-lethal responses. It is assumed that in the future, the Merlin-Interdictor decision will be adopted by law enforcement agencies and special services. The development of the novelty is part of the DFR-X (Drone-First-Response Interaction) concept: we are talking about the use of drones as the first line of emergency response, when drones are immediately sent to the scene before the arrival of ground services. In such cases, Merlin-Interdictor is expected to save lives.[1]
