2022: Start of production of Russian-Belarusian trams

In early December 2022, Russian-Belarusian trams began to be produced in the Nizhny Novgorod region. We are talking about a joint enterprise called Nizhekotrans, which launched the manufacture of trams under the MiNiN trademark (the name contains the first letters of the names of the two cities developing cooperation - Minsk and Nizhny Novgorod).

The Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region Gleb Nikitin said that starting the modernization of the entire electric transport network in Nizhny Novgorod, the regional authorities analyzed proposals for trams from many countries, including unfriendly ones.

According to the governor, the project was implemented in an unprecedentedly short time. On the basis of a joint venture in Vorsma, it is planned to produce about 170 trams for Nizhny Novgorod. About 150 employees will be involved in the production of the first batch, and then it is planned to create up to 500 new jobs.

The trains will be used in Nizhny Novgorod when updating the city's electric transport infrastructure. The head of the region noted that the appearance and interiors of the new trams were developed specifically for Nizhny Novgorod. Trams will be convenient for the elderly, and for mothers with strollers, and for people with disabilities.

The Belarusian side said that the Nizhny Novgorod region is one of the ten most important subjects in terms of trade and the number of integration and cooperation projects. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Russian Federation Dmitry Krutoy noted that in 2022 the parties plan to once again step over the mark of mutual trade turnover of $1 billion.
