2015: Announcement of Linux distribution kit Microsoft Azure Cloud Switch
On September 17, 2015 the Microsoft company announced the operating system constructed on Linux kernel. The platform under the name Azure Cloud Switch (ACS) will not appear in desktops and notebooks, it is intended for work of network equipment in corporate networks.
ACS is called a producer the cross-platform building operating system for creation by means of Linux of the network equipment intended for data centers.
Microsoft developers use this OS for fast testing, debugging and error correction in the software of switches, routers, etc. and also for reduction of code lines in network applications and adding of new features.
Switches based on Azure Cloud Switch are focused on use in networks of the cloud systems and networks of the enterprises, allowing to connect the available network infrastructure to a cloud platform of network management.

The ACS operating system relies upon use of the Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI) specification representing the first API based on open standards and language C for programming of ASIC (dedicated integrated microcircuits) of network switching.
ACS can be integrated with diagnostic systems and monitoring of Microsoft. Thanks to modern the new platform can work Linux technologies with open source applications, third-party software and own software of Microsoft.
The company did not specify terms of emergence of ACS in the commercial market.[1]
