Microsoft CloudOS Network is vision of the operating system uniform for use on the customer's servers, in public cloud services and in DPCs of hosting providers. Microsoft provided it in 2013^[1].

According to CloudOS ideology, the user can transfer the virtual machines and physical servers working running Windows Server to a cloud of Microsoft Azure or to hosting provider. Or back. All 3 scenarios use one format of virtual machines and virtual disks of Hyper-V that gives freedom of choice and mobility.

In the market there is a lot of hosting providers, but not all could modify quickly the infrastructure according to ideology of CloudOS and can provide services of a hybrid cloud. For differentiation of the hosting providers compatible from ideologies of CloudOS, Mocrosft organized the affiliate program — CloudOS Network.

CloudOS Network (COSN) is the closed network a host providers in the world which provide service IaaS according to CloudOS ideology. It means that the hosting provider uses Hyper-V 2012 R2 as a hypervisor, System Center 2012 R2 as the environment of management, and Windows Azure Pack as a self-service portal for users (or its API using which the control panel services used at hosting provider can be integrated with infrastructure Hyper-V 2012 R2 and System Center).

Global start of the program happened several months ago. A few hosting providers are still presented at the Russian market.

Are rather similar IaaS within the CloudOS Network and VPS program (Virtual Private Server it is VDS - Virtual Dedicated Service) — both there, and there at the exit the user receives a set of virtual machines to which he has access. But IaaS allows to implement more scenarios of use due to the distinctive features.

2013: Microsoft CloudOS

On October 24, 2013 Microsoft provided in Russia Cloud OS – the concept and the platform for creation of IT infrastructure using cloud computing. By the platform in this case in the company mean a set of upgraded versions of a number of the products and services, the main changes in which are connected with increase in opportunities for work in a cloud environment.

The updated products which entered into Cloud OS include:

• Windows Server 2012 R2,
• System Center 2012 R2,
• SQL Server 2014,
• Windows Intune,
• Visual Studio 2013 и
• .NET 4.5.1.

In Windows Server 2012 R2 a considerable part of changes concerned Hyper-V hypervisor, having provided a possibility of high-scalable virtualization, high-performance storage, creation of program-controlled networks and a hybrid cloud.

Also for Windows Server and System Center the company released new Windows Azure Pack there is a solution allowing service providers and customers to work in the DPC with the services based on the same technologies as services of a public cloud Windows Azure (a management portal, services for management, a hosting of the websites and virtual machines).

SQL Server 2014, in turn, contains the built-in technologies of information processing in memory without additional costs and also provides performance improvement at 10-30 times without need to rewrite applications or to buy the new equipment, claim in Microsoft.

SQL Server of 2014 can also work with Windows Azure. Using resources of a public cloud of Microsoft, customers can do cloud reservation of the local systems and disaster recovery directly of a cloud, increasing thus fault tolerance of applications, critical for business.

The final version of SQL Server 2014 will become available later, speak in Microsoft. Pozdne will become available also Windows Azure HDInsight service based on Apache Hadoop which works with SQL Server and widely used tools of the business analysis Microsoft Excel and Power BI for Office 365. Using Power BI, business analysts can combine data from a private and public cloud quicker to gain new knowledge and visualization.

For use of opportunities of mobile devices in corporate environment of Microsoft released new release of Windows Intune which, in combination with System Center Configuration Manager allows to get secure access to corporate applications and data which are necessary for employees for work, from any devices running Windows,iOS or Android. This unified environment of management for the PC and mobile devices is complemented with new opportunities of Windows Server 2012 R2.
