Microsoft reported that the next version of its ERP system of Dynamics AX will have new architecture thanks to which application developers for this platform should write less code.^[1]

Microsoft reported what changes will appear in its new ERP system code-named of Dynamics AX 6. To main of them the corporation carries the multi-tier model focused architecture (model-driven, layered architecture). As explain in Microsoft, it means that the platform contains a bigger set of the objects traditional for different data domains. Thus, it is to a lesser extent focused on programming specialists in a broad sense and more – on specialists in specific data domains.

When writing programs the last will be able to operate not with abstract terms, but the terms inherent to that area in which they specialize. According to statements of Microsoft, the new architecture should allow developers to write less code, to accelerate application development for the Dynamics AX platform and also to simplify their support and updating.

Other important feature of the new version of the platform in the company call close compatibility with the Microsoft Application Platform platform, including Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2, the Visual Studio 2010, and other technologies of Microsoft – for example, Microsoft Office 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint 2010.

It is also worth noting that the Dynamics AX platform will become more "boxed": according to statements of developers, this unified solution with the preset opportunities for five industries and 38 countries. It is expected that it will allow developers to adapt quicker the solutions both in industry, and in geographical aspect.

As declare in Microsoft, for the last six months over 100 independent software suppliers work with Dynamics AX 6, many of which already create the vertical solutions for this platform. The beta release of Dynamics AX 6 is expected in February, and its mass availability – in the third quarter 2011.

At the moment on sale the version of the Dynamics AX 2009 platform is available. According to Gartner, in 2009 SAP from shares of 26% which Oracle from shares of 12% follows became the largest player in the world market of large ERP systems. Shares of other players, including Microsoft, according to the agency are calculated by unambiguous digits. In Russia the lead of Microsoft from market leaders is even more: according to IDC, in 2009 its share made 7.1% while SAP occupied 50.1% of the market, and 1C - 22.3%.
