2020: The announcement of the application for control of use of gadgets by children

At the end of July, 2020 Microsoft released the application for control of use of gadgets by children. The program which received the name Microsoft Family Safety allows to protect children from an inappropriate content on the Internet, to set a limit of time for use of game applications, to configure notifications after purchases and also to share information on location with other family members.

As reported in Microsoft, when using this application parents and children weekly receive the e-mail containing the main information on Internet activity of the child which includes data on usage time of devices, the number of the visited websites, the history of search queries. On the basis of this report it is possible to develop healthy digital habits together with children, imparting them from early age, noted in corporation.

Microsoft Family Safety is the application for control of use of gadgets by children

Microsoft Family Safety allows to use search and web filters for setup of the list of the websites permitted or blocked for children. Function works together with the browser Microsoft Edge on Windows- computers, video game consoles Xbox and Android- devices.

Having received comments after testing of the preliminary version of Family Safety, the company entered a number of improvements to the application. Namely:

• the new feature for blocking or unblocking of certain applications is added;
• the visual contrast is improved to help users with visual impairment, and the additional context for the users using reader programs from the screen is provided;
• the quantity of intervals of extra screen time that parents could respond to the requests for prolongation quickly is increased;
• the location clustering by means of which it is possible to see quickly the number of people when several family members are in one place is added and to increase the screen to understand who it is specific.^[1][2]
