2018: Protection against viruses racketeers and other threats

At the beginning of April, 2018 Microsoft added the mechanism of protection against viruses racketeers which block operation of the computer to Outlook.com and require the redemption.

It is about function under the name Files Restore which as it is possible to guess, provides "rollback" of data to the copies created earlier — before the computer was infected with the malware. Recovery of the files loaded about 30 days ago is possible.

The mechanism of enciphering of separate messages which can be read through Outlook.com, Outlook for iOS and Android, the Windows e-mail client or just according to the special link is also implemented into Outlook.com. The sender of such messages will be able to prohibit transfer and copying of the message. Besides, users of Outlook will be able to password-protect links to folders or files.

2016: Outlook.com is upgraded

On February 20, 2016 it became known of upgrade of service of the Outlook.com^[1].

Service is postponed for infrastructure of Office 365, it increased its reliability and security. There were functions simplifying work with mail and events.

Functional additions

Microsoft upgraded the Outlook.com web mail adding of the functions available only to owners of accounts of Office 365. For February 20, 2016 changes in a system are available to inhabitants of Server America.

Transition to infrastructure of Office 365

Now Outlook.com is based on infrastructure of Office 365. According to developers, transition to this platform will improve security and reliability.

In this version, at acceptance in mail of e-tickets, time and date of departures are automatically entered in the calendar. Mail monitors the frequency of communication of the user of Outlook.com with specific contacts and during creation of the letter displays them in order of priority by this parameter.

Synchronization of Outlook.com and desktop applications of Outlook for Windows and OS X is upgraded — support of synchronization of automatic answers, checkboxes, categories, processing rules of incoming correspondence and draft copies is added. Outlook for Windows supports aliases of the postal addresses, and Outlook for OS X now — synchronization of the calendar and contacts.

Multitasking

In this version of Outlook.com the two-window mode works: the user can open in one Outlook.com window, in another — the on-line version of Microsoft Word or other application.

Users of Outlook.com can attach to letters of an investment, selecting them from Dropbox and Box storages directly from the Outlook.com web application.

Editing letters

In this version there were instruments of processing of the inserted images and support of text pointers of the emoji which are automatically replaced with graphic.

Work acceleration

Function of search in Outlook.com tries to guess the entered request now and to add the receiver in the course of writing of the letter, it is enough to enter in a body of the letter his name after the sign. Then it will be added in receivers automatically.

Hints searching

A system supports a possibility of fixing of important letters high on the list. In this version similar became possible with folders.

Addition

In this version support of the directory of the animated files of the gif format - Giphy appeared. According to creators, it is one of the largest directories. Users can insert from it the animated "gif images" into a letter body.

Outlook.com supports third-party services. There is an integration with Uber, PayPal, Evernote, Boomerang, Yelp and Wunderlist.

2012: Start of the test version of Outlook.com

Since August, 2012 Microsoft opened a public access to the test version of new web service of e-mail to the address Outlook.com which should replace obsolete Hotmail eventually finally. Start of Outlook.com is aimed also against the main competing services - Gmail and Yahoo of Mail.

As the main characteristics of Outlook.com of Microsoft calls the "simple" and "intuitive" user interface which are more focused directly on creation of messages and a minimum of additional elements include. Besides, in service the possibility of display of advertizing on displays of users is not provided.

By means of Exchange ActiveSync the accounts Outlook.com can be synchronized with different types of devices and also services Facebook Twitter LinkedIn, Google and in the near future Skype. It means that users will be able to get access to content of these services and networks directly of the Outlook.com interface.

Outlook.com is also capable to separate messages in separate folders on groups, such as content from those who are written in the address directory, news subscriptions, commercial mailings, content of social media.

New service also includes Office Web Apps, online the version of Word Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote along with service of storage Skydrive.com.

Since that moment as Outlook.com will be transferred to a phase of commercial operation, it will replace completely the Hotmail interface though the addresses of users of a type @hotmail.com, @live.com and @msn.com and also their passwords, contacts and messages belonging to these addresses will be saved.

At this Outlook.com will not have communication with the Outlook program for the PC and also Outlook Web App which provides to users of Exchange access to accounts via the browser.
