2018: Use of offline artificial intelligence

In April, 2018 Microsoft Translator received algorithms of artificial intelligence and an opportunity to translate texts without connection to the Internet on any devices running iOS and Android.

Microsoft Translator is the useful application for going abroad, but Internet access abroad is not always. Many translators working in offline mode cannot use difficult algorithms of machine learning for transfer. Since April 18, 2018, Microsoft Translator  executes transfer on the basis of a neuronet without access to the network.

The company says that during the work offline the translator can make a little more mistakes, than at connection to the Internet, but after a while this difference will be eliminated.

At the time of the announcement of new functionality service of synchronous translation from Microsoft supports Russian, the Arab simplified the Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and Thai languages.

Microsoft began to test publicly online translation in the program in the second half of 2017. Then this function became available on Android smartphones, but only equipped with special AI chips. Now the American company optimized algorithms so that they could work at the majority of modern mobile processors.

Microsoft said that after Translator updating the translation quality in service grew on average by 23% in comparison with the competing programs. The translator from Google also works with algorithms of neuronets, but only at connection to the Internet. 

Microsoft application of Translator for smartphones and tablets is available to free download in  directories App Store, Google Play and Amazon Appstore.[1]

2016

On December 14, 2016 the Microsoft company announced availability of Translator service (Microsoft Translator live).

For December, 2016 it is available in the fact-finding version. Gives to users the chance to keep up the conversation in several languages in real time or online.
