Mirantis OpenStack 9.0

MOS 9.0 based on Mitaka Openstack release provides wide feature set for convenient management of lifecycle of OpenStack-klaud.

OpenStack Mitaka is the 13th release of an open cloud platform of OpenStack created by community from 2336 developers, operators and users with the assistance of 345 organizations. 327 employees of Mirantis participated in development of Mitaka (the 1st place), 87 were the box-kontributorami (the 1st place). We fixed more than 3700 bugs (the 1st place), entered 1.37 million code lines (the 1st place) and performed 52,000+ of verifications of the code (the 1st place).

The improvements made in Fuel simplify a task of management of a private cloud based on OpenStack. Operators can use now Fuel for scaling of a cloud (increase and reduction of its size), entering of selective changes into its settings and adding of new functionality into the existing cloud. It is reached, in particular, by integration of the directory of applications of Murano giving the chance of orchestration of applications and self-service of users of a cloud. Besides, operators of large infrastructure projects can export the Fuel settings to external management tools settings of a cloud now.

Also it is necessary to pay attention to StackLight, the tool which is specially developed for logging, monitoring of an OpenStack-cloud. It gives the chance to the administrator of a cloud timely to obtain information on a problem and to quickly take measures for its solution.

Additional improvements simplify work of OpenStack at high loads. Work of infrastructure of virtualization of network functions (NFVi) is also improved: support of SR-IOV technology, a packet of DPDK, a binding to NUMA/CPU and big pages (Huge Pages) is implemented. Besides, possibilities of orchestration of applications and services through TOSCA are improved and the possibility of validation of Big Data using Cloudera and Hortonworks is implemented.

The number of users of Mirantis OpenStack 8.0 reached 26.000

In the spring of 2016 Mirantis released the version of Mirantis OpenStack 8.0 based on OpenStack Liberty release. The company has 26.000 unique users in three and a half thousand development teams on everything [1]

During the work on this release of Mirantis considered responses of the largest users of OpenStack on all continents. Among them there are such giants as AT&T, Comcast, eBay, Saudi Telecom, Shenzhen Stock Exchange, Telstra, Wells Fargo and other companies entering into Forbes Global 2000, representing financial, Internet/SaaS and telecommunication the industries. In total it is about 1.500 installations of OpenStack.

Bezrukov Valery, the sales director of Mirantis in Russia and the CIS so commented on release of new release: "Since MOS 8.0 we move to a new paradigm - we concentrate on management of clouds, but not on their implementations; i.e. not on inclusion of this or that hypervisor or SDS in structure of a distribution kit, and on development of functionality of a management system and increase in the nomenclature of managed controls. For this purpose we develop and we will develop Fuel - so that it could manage completely lifecycle of clusters, and not just their installation. Also we will increase quantity of the hypervisors supported "from a box" - in MOS 8.0 it is RedHat KVM and Ironic. We want that MOS was perceived as a convenient management system for heterogeneous clouds, but not some highly specialized, calculated on one vendor platform, and MOS 8.0 - the first, but important step in this direction".

Mirantis OpenStack 8.0 is founded on OpenStack Liberty release, the 12th release of OpenStack. Unlike other OpenStack developers, Mirantis does not deliver the products SDN, storage systems and technologies of virtualization with the distribution kit. Instead, the basis of Mirantis OpenStack is formed by the high-available controller of infrastructure, pozvolyayushchiyupravlyat a large number of virtualization platforms, data storage and networks at the choice of the client. Besides, Mirantis became the second kontributor on the volume of the checked code and the first in number of the corrected errors for Liberty release **.

Mirantis OpenStack 8.0 allows the organizations to select what components of infrastructure in the best way are suitable for needs of their deployment. In addition to KVM working for Ubuntu, and VMware vCenter, Mirantis OpenStack 8.0 now it is capable to manage hosts of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (KVM).

The independent companies and private developers created 171 plug-ins for Fuel for March, 2016. Mirantis OpenStack 8.0 include the control panel giving more than the contextual help and visual hints about what OpenStack components are compatible with each other. Thus resource management of your IT infrastructure became simpler, than ever.

Besides, Mirantis OpenStack 8.0 allows to unroll and configure Ironic, the OpenStack project for configuring of physical servers. Developers will be able to select physical servers or virtual machines for the workloads requiring high performance such as Cassandra, Hadoop or NFV.
