2021: Device Announcement
At the end of December 2021, Movano introduced the Movano Ring smart ring, which is designed to help people track chronic diseases at an affordable price and better understand their data.
Movano Ring will measure all major measures, including heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), sleep, breathing, temperature, blood oxygen levels, steps and calories burned. However, according to Movano, instead of dumping raw data, it will help determine how the indicators relate to each other, and "take a more proactive approach to reducing the risks of chronic diseases." For example, the Movano app can tell how exercise habits affect sleep patterns or HRV over time.
Movano CEO John Mastrototaro says the product design was designed more with women's preferences in mind, emphasizing the device's elegance, making it look thin and sleek. The Movano ring will hit the market in the second half of 2022, after release it will only be in beta testing. The manufacturer does not disclose the cost of the device, but promises to release a budget device.
As stated by Mastrototaro, one of the main differences from other rings will be the approval of the FDA device. Ultimately, they hope to get a Class II FDA designation and add medical functions like noninvasive glucose monitoring and blood pressure without a cuff, he said. The company is conducting clinical trials of its radio-frequency-enabled technologies and algorithms, as well as accuracy studies, to obtain FDA approval to monitor heart rate, SpO2 and respiratory rate.
| We are targeting both medical and consumer focus - the intersection of these two areas as opposed to one or the other. We want to have the appearance, feel and availability of a consumer device with the accuracy and reliability of a medical device, "Mastrototaro said.[1] |
