2021: The presence of marriage in the application for diabetics
In early April 2021, Roche recognized marriage in the diabetic app mySugr Bolus Calculator, as this calculator recommended that patients administer the wrong dose of insulin. The company reported that the problem concerns applications versions 3.71.0, 3.72.0, 3.73.0 and 3.74.0, that is, all versions released since August 23, 2020.
The mySugr Bolus calculator was released on the market as an application to help users calculate the required dose of insulin. The app was available for iOS and Android. However, as experts recently found out, under certain circumstances, the calculator can recommend the wrong dose.
The software error concerns the following cases: firstly, when the user uses the carbohydrate coefficient as the carbohydrate display unit, not grams, but a carbohydrate coefficient, and secondly, when the user sets the carbohydrate coefficient value different from the regional default settings (for example, 10 grams instead of 12 grams by default for a given region).
In a recall notice, the developers warned that administering an incorrect dose of insulin could lead to serious complications. For example, the constant administration of excessive doses of insulin leads to hypoglycemia, which stimulates the secretion of contrinsulin hormones and ricochet hyperglycemia - a response increase in plasma glucose. blood A prolonged increase in the level of contrinsulin hormones leads to the development of ketonuria and even ketoacidosis.
To correct the error, users must upgrade to version 3.74.1. Roche Diabetes Care has promised to contact affected consumers in writing. For more information, users are invited to contact Roche Diabetes Care customer support.[1]
