NIST Federated Testing Project is the software for collecting of digital proofs from devices of suspects.

On December 18, 2017 the National Institute of standards and technologies of the USA (National Institute of Standards and Technology, a NIST) announced software development for collecting of digital proofs from devices of suspects and release of version 3.0 of a product.

The software package received the general name "the integrated testing tools". Tools allow to exclude a possibility of damage and change of data when collecting and copying information. By software it is focused on use by law enforcement agencies and court specialists for copying of data from electronic devices.

Extraction and copying of data - risky process because of a large amount of differences in formats and devices from different producers. The tools created by a NIST allow to carry out process is effective and transparent.

Software consists of three tools for collecting and preserving of proofs, each of which is intended for one of aspects of process of copying of data:

  • one of tools checks the software for a possibility of copying of computer disks.
  • the second tests the software for extraction of data from mobile devices.

These two protocols of testing were available and earlier, however now the packet is complemented with the third tool - "record lock". It transfers data only from the withdrawn device to the computer of law enforcement authorities, but not on the contrary.

Software allows different laboratories of criminalistics to exchange results of researches with each other[1] in a report type[1].
