2025: Lobachevsky satellite put into orbit

On December 28, 2025, at 16:18 Moscow time, the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and spacecraft was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome. As a passing payload, the Lobachevsky kubsat of Nizhny Novgorod Lobachevsky University was launched on the basis of the Geoskan 16U satellite platform. This was announced on December 29, 2025 by Geoskan.

Kubsat "Lobachevsky" on the basis of the platform "Geoskan 16U"

As reported, the small spacecraft (MKA) is designed for agroecological research in various regions. Russia The project is being implemented with the support Innovation Promotion Fund of the Nizhny Novgorod center Scientificallyeducational.

On board the Lobachevsky, a multispectral camera manufactured by NPO Lepton JSC and a hyperspectral camera created at Samara State University named after Academician S.P. Korolev. Spectral data will be processed using the NNGU development hardware and software complex. This will allow specialists to assess the state of vegetation in forest and agricultural areas.

The satellite will also test the next generation microelectronics in space - a complex of memristor boards integrated with an amateur FM repeater.

Kubsat "Lobachevsky" was created on the basis of the satellite platform "Geoskan 16U." It is distinguished by one of the most accurate orientation and stabilization systems among cubsats, which allows you to obtain high-quality data from the FAR. "Lobachevsky" became the second cubsat of the Geoskan 16U, launched into orbit.

Our task is to create reliable and affordable satellites that will help educational organizations conduct their own scientific experiments in orbit. With the Geoscan 16U platform, we reached another level - we increased the available volume for the payload, and the orientation and stabilization system is designed to obtain high-quality images of the Earth and high-speed transmission of them to ground stations. This makes satellites based on the platform an effective and compact solution for both remote control tasks and communication services.

The first signals from the MKA were received by the open amateur radio networks SONICS and SatNOGS. Two-way communication with the device has already been established using Geoskan's own ground transceiver stations, and work with the cubsat has begun in the Mission Control Center.

The space direction in the Geoskan Group of Companies was opened in 2021. On August 9, 2022, the company's first satellite was launched into orbit on the basis of its own Geoscan 3U platform. Since then, the company has created 14 more CubeSat 3U form factor satellites and 2 CubeSat 16U form factor satellites for various experiments in the field of communication and remote sensing of the Earth. In total, as of December 2025, there are 16 satellites in orbit developed by Geoskan.
