2022: Ground stations developed to improve GLONASS accuracy

On October 13, 2022, Rostec announced the development of stations to improve the accuracy of GLONASS. The implementation of the project as part of the state corporation is carried out by NPP Radio Communications of the Roselectronics holding.

The company produces unproven measuring stations that are located on the ground and help to change the position of satellites in orbit.

The more accurate the satellites stand in their places, the more accurate the navigation on the ground. We make new navigation systems for such measurements. Soon we will begin to transfer this system to the customer, - said Rinat Galeev, director of NPP Radio Communications, in an interview with TASS.

Unproven measuring stations for GLONASS manufactured by NPP "Radio Communication" of the previous generation are installed in Antarctica. Four stations have been supplied for Antarctica. Further deployment of antennas should be determined in the ISS named after Reshetnev. As soon as they decide, the company will start manufacturing stations, Galeev noted.

The GLONASS system is designed to provide navigation of ground, sea, air and space-based objects.

For guaranteed coverage of the Earth's surface, it is necessary to have 24 operating satellites in medium-altitude orbits. By October 11, 2022, the GLONASS orbital constellation includes 27 satellites, including 23 Glonass-M and four Glonass-K. Of these, 22 satellites transmit navigation signals.

One Glonass-M is temporarily removed from the system, two Issa-M are in orbital reserve, one Glonass-K is at the flight test stage. Launched on October 10, 2022, Glonass-K has not yet been entered into the system as of October 13, 2022.[1]
