2025: Transfer of the Russian Navy
The Russian Navy (Navy) has begun testing the unique training vessel Nikolai Kamov, designed to train deck helicopter pilots. The specialized ship reproduces the best characteristics of helipads of corvettes and frigates, having no analogues in Soviet and Russian history. This was announced by a representative of the developer on July 21, 2025.
According to Izvestia, according to the results of factory sea trials, the ship can be finalized. The representative of the Krylovsky State Scientific Center noted the complexity of the technical equipment of such ships and the need to check the compatibility of various systems and mechanisms.
Initially, specialists will check the navigation qualities of the vessel, the operation of the main engines, steering and anchor devices. Tests include checking ship life support systems, radio and navigation complexes, communication systems, rescue equipment and survivability systems. At the final stage, the take-offs and landings of helicopters on the deck will be practiced.
Navy naval aviation veteran Yevgeny Ivanov explained the key design features of the training vessel. The helipad is as close as possible to the average site of warships - corvettes and frigates - measuring 10 by 10 or 12 by 12 meters. The vessel is equipped with a hangar, which creates shading and a rarefied area when the ship moves.
The ship is capable of creating onboard and keel pitching up to degrees, imitating the real sea conditions of corvettes and frigates. A special device allows you to simulate the movement of the deck in sea waves even in quiet weather, which provides the most realistic training conditions.
Ivanov stressed that thanks to Nikolai Kamov, pilots will not have to be distracted by warships for training. In recent years, ships have performed many combat missions, they are difficult to attract to train helicopter pilots. On a training ship, the pilot receives the same skills, can prepare and take to a higher class.[1]
