2018: Announcement of the most capacious SSD

In March, 2018 the Nimbus Data company specializing in release of storage systems presented the most capacious at the time of the announcement solid state drives at the market. Devices of 50 (DC50) and 100 Tbyte (DC100) enter the ExaDrive DC series.

New SSD are constructed on chips of memory 3D NAND of MLC of production SK Hynix and executed in a 3.5-inch form factor using the metal body.

Drives can use data transmission interfaces of SAS of 12 Gbps or SATA of 6 Gbps. In the latter case the speed of consecutive reading / record is 500 MB/s, and high-speed performance level during the work with accidental 4-kilobyte blocks reaches 100 thousand IOPS.

The five-year guarantee from the producer extends to products. During this term it is possible to perform an unlimited number of cycles of rewriting of information. If to take in attention the maximum speed of record in 500 MB/s, then in five years of the device about 79 PBytes of data should sustain rewriting.

More detailed technical characteristics of Nimbus Data ExaDrive DC  do not reveal. Also the cost of products is also unknown. The company only said that cost per one terabyte will correspond to the prices of the corporate SSD presented at the market.

At the same time in the press release it is specified that the cost of ownership of new models at the rate on 1 Tbyte is 42% lower, than at the analogs of the corporate level presented at the market. Lower and energy consumption — for 85% at the rate on 1 Tbyte of memory. The drives ExaDrive DC consume 10 W in standby mode and up to 14 W in an operating mode.

In March, 2018 Nimbus began deliveries of prototypes of ExaDrive DC solid state drives to some clients. It is expected that sales of devices will begin summer of 2018.[1]
