2025: Russian Army receives laser weapons to destroy UAVs and aircraft
In early June 2025, it became known that the Russian Armed Forces received a mobile laser complex designed to destroy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and aircraft. The system is used by the Nomad Special Forces (OSpN) detachment, which includes mobile air defense groups.
The laser installation is mounted on the chassis of a military vehicle. Inside there is an operator's point with a control panel, joystick and monitors. In the process of deployment to the position, the combat module with the laser is extended from the upper part of the vehicle body.
As noted by "Military Review," the power and other technical characteristics of the laser gun were not disclosed. During the demonstration of the system's capabilities, it was shown how it burns holes in a thick sheet of metal. The released personnel shows that after exposure to a laser gun, molten metal flows down the target. In addition, the wreckage of downed drones with traces of laser exposure is shown - with characteristic holes and soot.
The laser complex is operated by the troops and helps in the fight against enemy UAVs. It also provides the accumulation of the necessary experience and statistics. Based on the results of such an application, conclusions will be made and decisions will be made, the publication of the Military Review says. |
