At the end of January 2024, it became known that Russian specialists from the Military Academy of Logistics named after Army General A.V. Khrulev developed a new simulator of a nuclear explosion. The decision is designed to improve the quality of training of ground forces units for hostilities in the context of the use of nuclear weapons.

According to TASS, the created model provides a visual imitation of the visual signs of a ground-based nuclear explosion: this is an impact effect, a light flash and a mushroom-like dust cloud. The system is planned to be used in exercises and practical exercises at military units, as well as radiation, chemical, biological ground reconnaissance units to determine parameters and detect the epicenter of a nuclear explosion.

The new technology for which the patent was obtained replaces the IU-59 nuclear explosion simulator, which, as noted, is obsolete and is not produced by industrial enterprises. The samples of IU-59 available in the warehouses of military units have exhausted their technical resource and are categorically prohibited for operation.

The developers of the new simulator also note that it has advantages over a simulated IAB-500 bomb designed to simulate the combat use of a special RN-24 ammunition (a bomb with a nuclear warhead). The fact is that the IAB-500 was developed only for front-line aviation. Therefore, conducting practical exercises in order to train military units of radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance "was not economically feasible, since it required costs many times higher than the result obtained." In addition, the sample IAB-500 withdrawn from service in 1984 and is not produced by industrial enterprises.[1]
