2022: Cable fusion fault detected in device

In mid-November, it became known about an investigation initiated by Nvidia in response to consumer complaints stating that the latest GeForce RTX 4090 graphics accelerators worth $1,700 have additional power connectors and cables melted down for no apparent reason.

The GeForce RTX 4090 is Nvidia's most powerful graphics card by mid-November 2022. It is built on the advanced architecture of Ada Lovelace. The configuration includes 16,384 stream processors (CUDA cores) and 24GB of GDDR6X memory. At the same time, the power consumption reaches 450 W.

The additional power connector of the card has a 12 + 4 contact configuration, where the main ones are located in two rows of six elements each. The photos published on the Internet show that some of them melted and deformed. Users also complain about cracked plastic and difficulties connecting the connector to the connector. Nvidia, without going into any details, says they are studying the problem.
