OpenStack Watcher is the project on optimization of computing resources of a cluster which main objective – decrease in total cost of ownership. Among the main contributors of Watcher such companies as Intel, <>bcom, NEC, Walmart, ZTE, IBM.

2017

OpenStack Watcher was headed by Alexander Chadin

On March 24, 2017 the Servionica company announced election of Alexander Chadin, the engineer of department of software solutions, on a position of Project Team Leader of a project team Watcher.

According to global community OpenStack, the Watcher project reached version 1.0 that means its readiness for commercial operation. And involvement of the specialist from the business company interested in development of a product, having experience of an output to the market of own developments became a problem of selection of the candidate for a position of PTL Watcher.

In the rating of contributors of release of Ocata the Servionica company became the first among the Russian companies by quantity of code lines, and directly within Watcher entered TOP-5 of the largest contributors.

Alexander Chadin is selected by global community OpenStack on a position of the leader of a project team of Watcher. It one of leaders of developers of the platform in "personal offset" on number of the changes in the code offered and accepted by community. Chadin's contribution to the Watcher project for Ocata release - 8032 code lines that allowed it to take the second place of rating of the leading developers of the project.

Elections in community OpenStack of heads of project teams took place in February, 2017.

OpenStack Watcher

For March 23, 2017 OpenStack Watcher is technology as a part of a complex of projects OpenStack, it is intended for optimization of the operating virtual resources.

A system helps to optimize virtual machines, images, volumes, to execute balancing of a cluster.

Watcher provides resource optimization for the projects creating a cloud, for example, Cinder and Nova which are more focused on initial creation of resources (virtual machines, volumes).

Watcher project task - development of the mechanism of runtime allocation of computing load of virtual machines between physical servers, taking into account their load and the administrator's tasks.

After creation and start of a cloud can work in the optimal mode. Watcher helps administrators of clouds to configure and balance them, using algorithms for creation of the plan of the recommended actions. Such plan will help to increase capacity of applications, to reduce operating costs of a data processing center, to increase equipment service life, to reduce the level of participation of administrators in troubleshooting and setup of cloud resources.
