On March 14, 2023, Google announced the open source Open Health Stack (OHS) toolkit. It is designed to accelerate the development of digital medical products with a focus on standards, safety and advanced analytics.

The kit provides "building blocks" for building healthcare applications. Using OHS components, developers can spend less time solving common technical problems. This will allow you to pay more attention to the applications themselves and their additional functions. In addition, the released toolkit simplifies the implementation of state-of-the-art health standards (HL7 FHIR), enabling the creation of secure, data-driven standalone products for healthcare professionals in resource-limited settings.

Each of the components solves a common set of challenges for developers, provides a rich set of features, and is designed for a global health context. Together, these components provide the basis for developers to build comprehensive solutions that support FHIR [Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources - a standard for sharing health information], Google said.

Among the key advantages of OHS are: the ability to speed up the creation of medical applications for Android with a high level of security; improving confidentiality for patients and healthcare professionals (providing access to data only to strictly defined employees of medical institutions); shorter time to obtain reliable information for more effective decision-making within healthcare programs.
